Module content | The purpose of this module is to equip the student with knowledge about inclusion and inclusive education in South Africa. We focus on the causes of learning barriers, skills a teacher needs to support learners with learning barriers, as well as ways to accommodate these learners in the classroom. The causes of barriers to learning are examined and we distinguish between intrinsic and extrinsic factors that can cause learning problems. Multidisciplinary and systemic approaches are introduced. The family as primary educational institution is discussed, as well as the effect of the different parenting styles and child rearing errors on the development and academic progress of the child.
